About Honne
Honne is a very old farm, probably from before the Viking Age. The name originates from Hønne and comes from horn, corner, which refers to the shape of the ridge, south of the farm.
1640 - 1920
Originally an old farm
Honne is originally an old farm. A recurring feature of the farm’s history is the constant changes of ownership. After 1640, the farm has only been passed from father to son three times. Changes of ownership were particularly frequent between 1850 and 1920, when there were as many as 12 different owners here at Honne. Among these was the last director of Biri glassverk, Christian de Seue.
1920
Biri Municipality took over
Biri Municipality bought Honne in 1920 and carried out a major parcelization. After this, Honne was given the area the farm has had in recent times, approx. 300 acres of cultivated land and 200 acres of forest. Gjøvik Municipality exercised its right of first refusal to buy Honne in 1968, which put an end to farming in the normal sense of the word, as most of the land was laid out as municipal plots.
1972
Skogkurs moved to Honne
The Skogkurs institute moved from Prestebakke in Halden to Honne in 1972, and this was the start of Honne as we know it today. Skogkurs is a nationwide institution with almost 40 organizations and companies in Norwegian forestry as members, and Honne was originally built as a course venue for members’ course activities.
